Routine to Become Better Free Throw Shooter


A former player on the William and Mary baseball team, Michael E. Goldak played with the South Texas Sliders baseball club during his high school years. He was also part of the Houston Astros baseball club. Michael Eugene Goldak is still active in sports as a basketball player.

In basketball, free throws are an essential part of the game. For this reason, it’s important that players improve their free throw capabilities by establishing a unique routine. This routine is different for each player; some players dribble the ball three times before shooting it, while others might dribble only once.

Having this routine, players are jumping, running, and reacting to game situations. When players find themselves in a free-throw situation, they are standing still and do not have to compete with opponents for a chance at the hoop. This sudden change can be challenging for players to adjust to, but their free-throw routine helps them make the transition between the two scenarios more easily.

Players who establish a routine need to do everything exactly the same each time. The repetition is beneficial for mental recollection and muscle memory. Beyond that, it helps players build more confidence at the free-throw line.
